In June 2019, we entered and won the Innovation awards at the Cork Summer show. The award was in recognition of our ‘Biomass fuelled commercial grain drier’. I was very honoured to receive this award as it gave us recognition for all the research and development this project demanded over many years. Briefly this project directly replaces fossil fuels such as diesel with locally grown biomass such as bean straw, wheaten straw, mischantus etc. We are still developing and refining this project. We have done analysis on the various biomass fuels and we are working on process automation this year. It is disappointing that we and the two other similar biomass projects here in Ireland received no grant assistance to help deliver these projects given the importance of carbon mitigation.
